The season for flashing a bit more skin is here and as the temperature rises so does the need to protect your skin from the sun’s rays. Here are our top summer skincare tips to save your skin.
Exfoliate
Exfoliating removes built-up dead skin cells that give you a dull complexion and prevents congestion. Exfoliate in the morning (twice a week is enough!) before you apply your toner, moisturiser, SPF and make-up. Follow up with a hydrating body and face cream to seal in moisture, and ALWAYS apply an SPF of 30+ or higher.
Keep Skin Hydrated
Up your skincare routine with super-hydrating formulas. Serums are great for adding an extra layer of moisture and work best layered underneath your moisturiser. Top up with a spritz of your favourite revitalising facial mist throughout the day for added glow.
Drink Lots of Water
Higher temperatures lead to internal dehydration which can leave your skin looking saggy and parched. Drinking 2 litres of good old water every day will help maintain the moisture balance of your body and skin, and it’s completely free.
Apply, Then Reapply!
It’s not enough to only apply sunscreen in your morning routine! You MUST reapply frequently to maintain protection from the sun’s rays. Most people don’t apply nearly enough SPF as they should, aim for a teaspoon on your face and about a shot glass for your body, and a wide-brimmed hat certainly doesn’t hurt!
Soothe Over-Exposed Skin
Prevention is obviously the best option, but if you do get caught out forgetting the sunscreen or you didn’t apply enough, cooling gels can help prevent peeling and reduce redness. Apply generously over your sun-damaged skin at the first sign of redness. And, a regular skin check by your doctor or dermatologist should be part of your beauty routine!
Treat Sun Damage
Skin damage is caused by dangerous UV light and results in photoaging in the form of brown spots, pigmentation, coarse skin texture and premature wrinkles. At home, slathering your skin with age-fighting ingredients will help to undo any damage that has occurred and there are effective in-clinic treatments that address these concerns.
