C02 Fractionated Laser
Traditionally, carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers have been used to resurface the skin, reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture. While these lasers were effective, they came with significant downtime that is not compatible with busy lifestyles. Fractional laser technology, using the FraxisDuo, has transformed laser treatments and unlike traditional CO2 lasers, fractional CO2 lasers fire columns of energy into the treatment area. By using the fractionated method, this ensures fast healing and the ability to customise treatments for each patient. This method allows for controlled, safe and effective skin treatment outcomes.

How does it work?
The fractional CO2 laser fractionates, or pixellates the laser beam into thousands of tiny little shafts of light. These tiny shafts of light penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and then repairs those tiny shafts by pushing out the old sun damaged skin and replacing it with new skin. The “collateral” heat damage also helps to stimulate existing collagen and elastin proteins. The result, a more youthful skin.
The benefit of C02 laser is that we are able to control the depth of treatment, dependent on the condition of the skin being treated, lifestyle and level of downtime . Within the clinic we treat superficially – level 1 up to a level 4. Your clinicians can discuss this within your consultation.

What is involved in the treatment?
Safety eye wear will first be fitted and a topical numbing cream is applied for 45 – 60 min and photos will be taken.
The laser device will be moved over your skin and you will feel warmth and there may be slight discomfort. This can be alleviated with cool air from our zimmer.
A healing balm will be applied immediately post treatment with after care instructions.
What should I do before my treatment?
Refrain from sun exposure and ensure that you are using the correct homecare to prepare your skin for the treatment.
Is It Painful?
With the use of a topical and cool air from our zimmer, post treatment will feel like a sunburn for a few hours post treatment.
What is the recovery time?
Upon leaving the clinic, your face will appear red and feel similar to a sunburn. Over the next 24-48 hours, you will experience some facial swelling. This is part of the normal healing process.
Patients can expect downtime of anywhere form 2- 5 days depending on skin type, lifestyle, condition being treated and depth of the treatment. During this time we recommend no vigorous activities, no saunas, hot spas and sleeping elevated for the first days to help with swelling. We also recommend increasing your water intake. As treatment depth can be controlled we treat superficially at a level 1 requiring 1 -2 days downtime, up to a level 4 requiring up to 7 days of downtime downtime.
How many treatments will I need?
All patients are different, however 2 – 3 treatments are recommended.
What conditions are commonly treated with C02 Laser?
C02 lasers are able to treat sun damage, lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, surgical scars, loss of elasticity and seborrheic keratosis (age spots).
